This Summer, They Don't Have to Choose Between Being Themselves and Having Friends.

Most camps ask your kid to mask who they are just to fit in. This one was built by educators who have dedicated their lives to make sure your kid never has to go through that again… 80+ live online camps. 50 minutes a day, Monday through Friday. Small groups of kids who finally get each other... led by mentors who were once just like them. June 1 – August 10 · Ages 5 to 18 · Camps from $163 · Satisfaction Guarantee

Every Summer, the Same Impossible Search.

You feel trapped. You feel like you're wedged between a harmful rock and an isolating hard place.

Isolation

You worry about them being isolated, gaming alone in their room, being unsupervised, doom scrolling, not connecting with others… At the same time, you've been burned before.

Refusal after Day 1.

You've tried general camps. But they weren't a fit. Your child felt bored, misunderstood, invisible, maybe got kicked out, or worse, bullied. You dread dropping them off — physically or virtually — only for them to beg not to go back. You know the look.

Nobody understands.

It's hard to find teachers who truly get their bright, quirky mind. The intensity. The asynchrony. The need to be seen, not controlled.

Can't afford failure.

Another bad summer experience could set back their confidence for years. The stakes have never been higher.

“My son came home from his first YSA camp and asked when his next one was. That had never happened before.”
— YSA Summer Parent

Summer at YSA Is Different.

It's not a screen. It's not a lecture. It's not a babysitter.

It's 50 minutes a day where your kid walks into a room full of people who think the way they think. Where a mentor who actually understands them is running a camp they chose because it sounded incredible... not because you made them.

And then something happens that doesn't happen at other camps.

They ask to come back tomorrow.

This Is YSA Summer. Here's How It Works.

01

Pick Your Camps.

Browse 80+ camps by age, interest, or schedule. Each camp runs one week, Monday through Friday, 50 minutes a day. New camps every week — they never repeat.

02

Stack Your Week.

Most families start with 2–4 camps per day. Many add more once their kid gets hooked. You build the schedule that fits — morning, afternoon, or both.

03

Unlock the Village.

Enroll in 3 or more camps in a single week and your child unlocks the virtual village campus. Every day at 11:00 AM Pacific, campers gather in our virtual campus. It's like a video game meets Zoom! Kids hang out as avatars, eat lunch together, and build real friendships between sessions. It's interactive recess, not screen time.

04

Have an Epic Week.

Your kid travels camp to camp with a growing group of like-minded friends. Monday through Friday, 50 minutes at a time. Small groups of 6 to 8. Mentors who notice when they're quiet and check in. Cameras always optional.

05

Come Back Next Week.

Camps don't repeat — so they can take new ones all summer. Try Mock Trial one week, Minecraft Engineering the next, then Criminal Justice, D&D, Papercrafting, or Podcasting. Ten weeks of exploring who they are and who they want to be.

Inside the Virtual Campus

This is what 11:00 AM Pacific looks like.

Every day, campers taking 3+ camps gather in our avatar-based virtual campus to eat lunch, hang out, and just be kids together. It's interactive recess — not screen time.

What the experts say

My favorite (virtual) summer camp for neurodivergent kids! I used to search high and low for unique opportunities back when Ash was younger. Finding camps that ticked all the boxes — emotionally safe and supportive environments, topics that appeal to kids with unique interests, and a peer group of other differently wired kids so my child could feel belonging and community — could be a tall order. I think that's why I'm such a big fan of Sam Young's Young Scholars Academy. Sam designed his program to develop strengths, interests, and relationships and offer a safe haven for differently wired kids to connect around their asynchronies, quirks, and interests. I could go on, but if you're looking for summer programs for your kids, I encourage you to stop reading, and go check out YSA.

We hear this all the time

"But... it's online."

“My child already has too much screen time.”

There's screen time, and there's this. Arguing a criminal case in Mock Trial with 6 peers who share your obsession, taught by a mentor who was once just like you — that's not the same as scrolling TikTok. Parents tell us their kids fight to log on to YSA. That's not something they say about school.

“My child already burned out on Zoom school.”

Please don't confuse reactive distance learning with what happens at YSA. When a kid is doing Minecraft Redstone Engineering or debating history with 6 kids who finally get them, the screen disappears. They're not on a screen. They're with their people.

“They won't make real friends online.”

This is the part that surprises parents most. Same cohort all week, every week. By Tuesday, inside jokes. By Thursday, they're texting after camp. 93% of families re-enroll because their kids' friendships don't end when camp does.

“I'd rather they be outside or active.”

So would we — and that's why camps are 50 minutes a day, not 8 hours. What fills the rest of their summer is up to you. But these 50 minutes? They change things. Ask any parent who's watched their kid walk out of their first session asking when the next one is.

Cameras are always optional. There are no grades. No cold-calling. No homework. Your child chooses to show up — because they want to be there.

That's the difference.

Is YSA Summer Right for Your Child?

Great fit for...

  • Kids who have intense niche interests — from transit maps to medieval siege weapons.
  • Students who feel bored or "different" in traditional school settings and are looking for "edu-tainment" in their interest areas.
  • Gifted or 2e learners who need both challenge and support.
  • Parents looking for an inclusive, high-level social community.
  • Families who want more than a babysitter — they want growth.

May not be the right fit for...

  • Families looking to "fix" their kids and only focus on what they're "bad at."
  • Students who prefer busy work without complexity.
  • Kids who prefer passive, lecture-style learning without interaction.
  • Families looking for non-inclusive, non-interactive learning.
  • Parents who are not seeking social opportunities/connection for their children.

Summer Questions

Everything About YSA Summer Camps

From how it works to who teaches — your questions answered.

How It Works

How do YSA summer camps work?

Summer camps run Monday through Friday, 50 minutes a day, one week at a time, for 10 weeks (June through August). YSA offers roughly 100 unique camp titles across 321 sessions in 7 categories: Gaming, STEM, History & Humanities, Arts, Life Skills, College Prep, and Social. Every camp has a maximum of 6–8 students and is taught by the same mentor all week. Camps don't repeat, so your child can take different ones all summer.

Can my child take more than one camp per day?

Absolutely. Most families stack multiple camps. Camps run throughout the day from 7 AM to 7 PM Pacific. Your child might do Minecraft Redstone Engineering at 9 AM, D&D at 10 AM, and Speech & Debate at noon. It's like building your own summer day camp, except every activity is something they chose.

What is the Virtual Campus during summer?

When your child takes 3+ camps in a week, they unlock the Virtual Campus at 11 AM for a supervised lunch break. Kids hang out as avatars, eat lunch together, and just be kids. Think of it as the camp lunch table, virtual. For many families, it's their child's favorite part of the day.

What ages are summer camps for?

Ages 5 to 18. Every camp listing shows the recommended age range. Filter by age in our catalog.

Choosing & Enrolling

How do I choose the right camps?

Start with what lights your child up. Obsessed with military history? Tools of War. Building Minecraft worlds? Redstone Engineering. Argues about everything? Mock Trial. Calculating game odds? Balatro. Can't stop drawing? Art Club or Mythical Drawing Lab. Browse by age, interest, or schedule, or use Scheduley AI for personalized recommendations.

How much do summer camps cost?

Individual camps are $163–$185 per camp. The All-Access Summer Pass starts at $1,997 for the summer (Bronze: 3 camps/week; Silver: 5 camps/week at $2,797; Gold: 5 camps/week + 10 private 1:1 sessions at $4,997). The pass saves up to 64% vs. à la carte. Payment plans and ESA/charter funds accepted.

What's the All-Access Summer Pass?

Unlimited camps every week, all summer, one flat price. Pass holders get automatic daily Virtual Campus access. Includes over $5,000 in bonuses: Expert Vault recordings (featuring Dr. Temple Grandin, Seth Perler, Dr. Barry Prizant), Parent Cheat Codes guides, and community perks. If the pass isn't working after the first full week, 100% converts to a never-expiring YSA credit.

Can I use ESA or charter funds?

Yes. YSA is approved with 10+ state ESA programs. Many families pay zero out of pocket. Enroll directly, submit the invoice, and when funds transfer, your payment method is refunded.

Safety & Quality

Who teaches the summer camps?

The same 22 hand-selected mentors who teach year-round. They're the grown-up versions of your kids — neurodivergent themselves, or parents of neurodivergent kids at YSA. They include Jennifer Hughes (retired attorney, 30+ years, Mock Trial), Megan Hardy (professional DM, 4,000+ students, D&D), Nelson Dean (20 years, STAR teacher award, Tools of War), and Ms. Jackson (26 years theatre). All background-checked. Every session recorded.

Is this safe?

Every adult is vetted and background-checked. Sessions recorded. Campus moderated. Groups of 6–8. No anonymous users. A community of 1,200+ families who know each other. A village, not a platform.

What about screen time?

Each camp is 50 minutes/day. Not all screen time is created equal. This is active participation: Socratic discussion, building flying machines in Minecraft, arguing cases, collaborating on D&D quests. The campus has set hours and closes at night.

My child has PDA. Will summer camps work for them?

YSA summer camps are challenge-by-choice. No homework. No grades. Cameras optional. Students are never forced to participate. Mentors lead with invitation, not demand. For PDA kids, this means they can engage on their own terms. Many PDA families tell us summer at YSA is the first time their child was excited about a structured program.

The Experience

What does a typical day look like?

Sample day (3 camps): 9 AM, Minecraft Redstone Engineering with Ms. L (same friends all week). 10 AM, D&D with Megan (same friends all week). 11 AM, Virtual Campus lunch break. 12 PM, Speech & Debate with Coach Hughes (same friends all week). Each camp is 50 minutes with the same cohort of 6–8 and the same mentor, all week.

Will my child make friends?

Every time. Your child joins a camp about something they love and meets kids who love it too. Same group all week. By Tuesday, inside jokes. By Thursday, texting after camp. Parents tell us their children are more connected here than anywhere in their physical lives. 93% of families re-enroll.

What if my child doesn't love their camp?

Summer Camp Satisfaction Guarantee: If your child isn't loving camp by the end of Day 1, transfer to another camp that week or receive a full credit. No risk. No stress.

What is the best online summer camp for gifted or 2e kids?

Young Scholars Academy offers one of the most comprehensive virtual summer camp experiences for gifted, twice-exceptional, and differently-wired kids ages 5–18. With 100+ unique camp titles across 10 weeks, course sizes of 6–8, hand-selected neurodivergent mentors, and a virtual campus for socializing between sessions, YSA summer is designed for kids who need more than a generic camp.

Logistics

What tech does my child need?

Computer or tablet with webcam, microphone, and stable internet. Courses on Zoom. Some camps (Minecraft, Roblox, Kerbal, etc.) require owning the game. Each listing specifies materials.

What time zone are camps in?

All times Pacific (PT). Camps run 7 AM to 7 PM PT to accommodate families worldwide.

How do I get started?

Browse camps at youngscholarsacademy.org. No account needed. Register online. No phone call, no placement test. Use Scheduley AI for personalized recommendations. Questions: support@youngscholarsacademy.org.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions Parents Ask.

Everything you need to know about Young Scholars Academy.

What is Young Scholars Academy?

YSA is a WASC-accredited virtual village for gifted, twice-exceptional, and differently-wired students ages 5–18. We offer 175 live online courses (from Minecraft Redstone Engineering to AP Psychology to Mock Trial) with a maximum of 6–8 students per course, taught by 22 hand-selected mentor teachers who are neurodivergent themselves. We serve 1,200+ families across 47+ states and 17 countries. This is not a marketplace. It's a school and a community.

How does it work?

During Fall and Spring semesters, courses meet once a week, live on Zoom, 50 minutes per session. During Summer, camps run Monday through Friday, one week at a time. When your child enrolls in 3 or more courses, they get free access to Homeroom Social Club — a weekly gathering with a consistent group of friends. Between courses, students hang out on our virtual campus where they walk as avatars, eat lunch together, and build real friendships with kids from around the world who finally get them.

Who is this for?

Gifted, twice-exceptional, and differently-wired students, including kids with ADHD, autism, giftedness, anxiety, dyslexia, and PDA. No diagnosis required. If your child is clever, quirky, and hasn't found their people yet, they belong here. About 65% of our families homeschool. The rest use us alongside traditional or charter schools.

Is this a low-demand environment?

Yes. No grades. No traditional homework. Cameras always optional. Challenge by choice. Students are never cold-called, never forced to participate, and never penalized for how they choose to engage. For students with PDA, demand avoidance, or anxiety, this is the difference between a program they resist and one they ask to log into.

How much does it cost?

Semester courses start at $624. Summer camps are $163–$185 per camp. Payment plans, sibling discounts, referral credits, and ESA/charter funding accepted. We're an approved vendor with 10+ state ESA programs.

Will my child actually make friends?

This is the part that surprises parents most. Your child joins a course about something they love and meets 6–8 kids who love it too. Same group all semester (or all week for camps). Parents tell us their children are more connected with this community than with anyone physically around them. 93% of families re-enroll because their kids won't let them stop.

What if it doesn't work?

100% Satisfaction Guarantee. Switch courses, receive a credit, or stop payments. No questions asked. We can offer this because we know what happens when these kids find their people.

What do parents get?

Virtual Coffee & Connect hours every couple of weeks. Regular Expert Talks with leaders like Seth Perler, Debbie Reber, and Dr. Temple Grandin. A Facebook group where families connect and support each other. Progress updates from mentors. And the ability to watch your child's courses anytime (just stay off camera). You're not just enrolling your child. You're joining a village.

Their Best Summer Starts Today.

Right now, a kid who thinks like your kid is in a camp they chose, with a mentor who was once just like them, surrounded by friends who don't think they're weird... they think they're interesting. Your child is one click from finding out what that feels like.

Limited spots available per class.
